Welcome to the inter-active art lesson series "Art Lessons 1", by Ted Nicholas. This is an inter-active series that will give you "hands-on" art lessons. This first series "The Basics" is intended to introduce you to the world of art creation. It will give you many of the basic steps and techniques involved and is a well-rounded introduction to the world of art creation. Many of the concepts and techniques in these lessons pertain to all art mediums, including "digital" art. Much of the focus of these lessons is on computer art and it's creation. These step-by-step lessons will supply you with the information and "hands-on" experience you need to start into the world of art creation.
These lessons require that you have the full version of HyperStudio for the Macintosh computers.
System requirements: 256 colors, 4 meg RAM, Mouse or other pointing device,
System 7.x
Below are the steps involved for setting up the "Art Lessons 1" files on your hard drive. These lessons will not run properly off the disks. They must be copied to your hard drive first. All of the files from both disks must be copied into the same folder on your hard drive.
1. Create a new folder on your hard drive called "Art Lessons 1".
2. Insert disk 1 into your computer and open it's window.
3. Choose "Select All" from the Edit Menu and drag all the files on disk 1 into your new folder on
your hard drive.
4. Insert disk 2 into your computer and repeat this process dragging all the files on disk 2 into the same new folder on your hard drive.
Now you are ready to use the lessons.
In your new folder you will find a HyperStudio stack called "Home.Stack". You can run HyperStudio and open this stack as normal. If you're a System 7.x user, you can use the lessons by double-clicking on the "Home.Stack".
You should always use these lessons by loading the "Home.Stack" first. If the stacks are not viewed in the proper order, it could cause programming problems with-in the lessons. Always start the lessons by opening or double-clicking on the "Home.Stack".
Some sections of these lessons are memory intensive. If you have problems viewing or using any part of these lessons, here's a possible solution for you.
Quit HyperStudio.
From the Finder, click once on the HyperStudio application to select it.
While the application is selected, choose "Get Info" from the finders File Menu.
An information dialogue box will appear.
In the bottom of the dialogue box is a "Preferred Memory" setting.
Click once in this setting box and reset it to at least 2000K. If you have more than 4
meg of RAM, set it to 3000K.
Close the box and try running the lessons again.
This should allow for enough memory to properly run the lessons.
These inter-active lessons should be an enjoyable learning experience for anyone interested in the world of art creation, in the class-room or at home. They are not intended to be a reference or complete experience. But they should give you the basic concepts of what you need to get started in the world of art.
